Mike Markuson

Markuson headed to Wisconsin

Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema announced Saturday that Mike Markuson has been hired and will coach the Badgers’ offensive line. Markuson has spent the last 14 years in the SEC, coaching the offensive lines at Arkansas and Ole Miss. (more…) (January 23, 2012, Page 3B)

Scott’s all-around effort leads Rebels to win

Heading into Saturday’s game against Southern Illinois, Ole Miss had plenty of questions surrounding its team.

Some were answered.

Some verdicts are yet to be determined. (more…) (September 12, 2011, Page 1B)

Markuson keeping Rebel linemen focused

Don’t ask Ole Miss offensive line coach Mike Markuson who will win the Southeastern Conference title or any other title this year.

Markuson isn’t a big fan of preseason publications, and that includes hearing the early buzz about his offensive line being one of the best in the SEC and nation.

From Markuson’s perspective, his line still has something to prove and the preseason hype usually doesn’t help prove that point. (August 18, 2011, Page 2B)

WR Logan has something to prove

Ole Miss junior wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan said he and the rest of the team’s receivers have something to prove heading into the 2011 season. In a year where there is no proven No. 1 receiver for a quarterback to throw to, Logan is hoping that he can fill that role sooner rather than later for the Rebels. (June 27, 2011, Page 7)

Nkemdiche: ‘I’m not turning back now’

In February, Denzel Nkemdiche looked like he was headed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Nkemdiche’s grades were the culprit, forcing the talented defensive back to begin his collegiate playing career somewhere other than in the Southeastern Conference. (more…) (May 25, 2011, Page 6)

Ole Miss WR Logan enjoying new role as leader

Football practice has become more enjoyable for Ole Miss sophomore wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan this spring. A year after the 6-foot-2 Natchez native got his feet wet playing in a reserve role at wide receiver, Logan has become one of the two main leaders for a group that is currently short on overall experience. Rebels, coaches pleased with improved execution

The ultimate goal for the Ole Miss Rebels heading into Saturday’s matchup with the No. 5 LSU Tigers at Tiger Stadium was to return to Oxford with a big upset win.

That didn’t work out for the Rebels against one of their biggest rivals, but the effort and overall execution of the team was much improved a week after suffering a disappointing loss at Tennessee.

Ole Miss finished the game with 420 total yards and scored points almost at will in the 43-36 loss. The defense was unable to hold the Tigers late in the game when it mattered most, but the unit didn’t give up a ton of explosive plays that have hindered them in other losses this year. (November 22, 2010, Page 2B)

Rebels face tough test at No. 5 LSU

Ole Miss and LSU may be one the same side of the standings in the Southeastern Conference, but that’s about the only thing the two schools have in common heading into Saturday’s annual “Magnolia Bowl” meeting at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

The Rebels are 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC after falling 52-14 on the road at Tennessee last weekend and in desperate need of some good fortune to finish the regular season. (November 19, 2010, Page 6A)

Bolden continues to run well for Rebels

There were no bright spots to talk about for the Ole Miss offense in Saturday’s 52-14 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium with the exception of the running of junior Brandon Bolden.

Bolden carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards and scored both of the team’s touchdowns in a game that was essentially decided by the start of the third quarter.

The two scores for Bolden raised his season total to 11 on the year and 20 in his career, while his rushing effort gave him five games of over 100 yards. (November 15, 2010, Page 2B)
