NOTEBOOK: Rebels’ Elston suspended a half against A&M

No. 3 Ole Miss is about to face the most potent passing attack it’s seen all season, and the Rebels will have to defend it without one of its starters in the secondary early on. Rebel coach Hugh Freeze has suspended junior safety Trae Elston for the first half of this Saturday’s game against No. 14 Texas A&M (8 p.m., ESPN) after Elston attempted to kick Alabama running back Kenyan Drake during the second quarter of last week’s 23-17 win over the Crimson Tide (October 7, 2014, Page 6)

Rebels aim to win this time against Alabama

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze doesn’t know if his team will put up more points than Alabama on Saturday evening at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. But for the first time in his tenure, there’s a belief that it could actually happen. (September 30, 2014, Page 6)

NOTEBOOK: Ole Miss being real with Tide’s run defense

Ole Miss’ running game has shown some signs of life recently. The Rebels broke 200 yards on the ground for the first time three weeks ago against Louisiana-Lafayette and followed that up with 178 yards against Memphis last Saturday. Ole Miss has increased its average run to 4 yards after mustering a measly 2.9 through the first two games, a byproduct of some explosive scampers. The Rebels have ripped off runs of 71, 53, 23 and 22 yards in their last two outings. (September 30, 2014, Page 6)

Rebel secondary keeps finding the ball

The Ole Miss defense picked up right where it left off in Nashville last week. The Rebels came into Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette with a Southeastern Conference-leading five interceptions, also good for enough to be tied second nationally. By the end of the  night they added three more to that total. (September 14, 2014, Page 2B)

Jones pulling double duty for Ole Miss

Derrick Jones started his career at Ole Miss as a wide receiver before switching to cornerback last season. Now the sophomore is playing on both sides of the ball. (September 4, 2014, Page 8)

NOTEBOOK: Healthy Wallace wants to ‘play within the offense’

Bo Wallace is confident in his healthy throwing shoulder. Maybe too confident. Last week’s season opener against Boise State was the Ole Miss senior quarterback’s first chance to display the renewed strength in his arm thanks to a shoulder that’s finally back to 100 percent following a separation suffered during the 2012 season. Wallace admitted it got him into trouble at times. (September 2, 2014, Page 8)

VIDEO: Freeze reviews Boise State win, talks Vandy

Ole Miss begins preparations for Boise State

With less than 10 days remaining until its season opener against Boise State, Ole Miss has moved from the grind of fall camp into preparations for the Broncos. The Rebels spent a portion of their practice Monday morning focusing on Boise State and went into further detail during a walk-through Monday night. The new-look Broncos are making formulating a game plan more difficult than usual. (August 19, 2014, Page 8)

NOTEBOOK: Shepard’s return to field ‘doesn’t look promising’

The update on cornerback Tee Shepard isn’t good for Ole Miss. Shepard, one of the Rebels’ top newcomers, hasn’t practiced since Friday and may end up missing the entire season with a partially torn tendon under his big toe. The sophomore, who had been running with the first team at times during camp, suffered the injury late last week, and the coaching staff is in the process of getting second and third opinions from doctors before deciding what course of action to take. (August 14, 2014, Page 8)
