Bank robber seeks insanity defense
The attorney for a man charged with robbing the Mississippi Federal Credit Union Bank on West Jackson Avenue in June claims he will use insanity as his client’s defense, according to court records filed Thursday at the U.S. District Court in Oxford.
Perry E. Moseley, 32, of Marks was arrested June 30 after local law enforcement officers apprehended Moseley 15 minutes after a 911 call reported that a man entered into the bank and told the teller he had a gun and demanded money. (January 28, 2011, Page 2A)
Another interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District sworn in
The second interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District was sworn into office Wednesday to temporarily fill the job that was left open when former U.S. Attorney Jim Greenlee retired last year.
Chief Judge Michael P. Mills, on behalf of the judges for the Northern District of Mississippi, announced the appointment of John Marshall Alexander as Interim U.S. Attorney, effective Dec. 28. Businessman pleads to bank fraud charge
Former Oxford businessman Dino Jerry Grisanti pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud Thursday in front of a federal judge.
According to court records, in January 2006, Grisanti, operator of the now-defunct Grisanti Rebel Motors in Oxford, attempted to defraud Regions Bank by concealing he had sold 66 vehicles worth $2,985,768. (October 22, 2010, Page 2A)
County replies to insurance agent’s lawsuit
Attorneys representing the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors denied allegations made by a former insurance agent who claimed the county set him up on conspiracy charges.
The suit, filed May 27 by former insurance agent Ken Nowlin, also names attorney Tony Farese, whom Nowlin says failed to act in his best interest and coerced him into pleading guilty in 2007 to conspiring with former supervisor Gary Massey to scam the county. (June 29, 2010, Page 2)
