OMS boys, LMS girls complete sweep of rivals

It was a different setting, but the song remained the same when the Oxford and Lafayette Middle School basketball teams met for the second time this season Thursday evening. This time, the crosstown rivalry was held inside the Oxford High gym. Much like the last meeting on Nov. 17 at the Lafayette High gym the Oxford boys swept their pair of games over the Commodores starting with a 28-7 win in the seventh-grade game. (December 12, 2014, Page 6)

Water Valley ties, wins against LMS

After rain washed out Tuesday’s scheduled meeting between the Lafayette and Water Valley middle school football teams, they were able to play Thursday at William L. Buford Stadium.  The seventh-grade game resulted in a 12-12 tie, and how the teams got there included some excitement. Water Valley won the eighth grade matchup 8-6. (September 5, 2014, Page 6)

Judge to decide fate of race discrimination suit

Attorneys for North East Mississippi Electrical Power Association have asked a U.S. District Court judge to throw out a $388,000 jury verdict against the utility company that resulted from a lawsuit filed by a former employee who claimed he was fired because of his race. (December 9, 2011, Page 2A)
