Kinky Friedman set for TMR and Proud Larry’s tonight (Thursday, Feb. 23)

OXFORD TOWN – In the 2006 race for Texas governor, Kinky Friedman, best-selling mystery novelist and musician, came in a close fourth on the ticket. Luckily for us (these days), Kinky is free. Free to tour and sip tequila and write books (a new mystery with Billy Bob Thornton) and record songs, including an upcoming album with Willie Nelson. Friedman is in town today (Thursday, Feb. 23) and is scheduled to appear on Thacker Mountain Radio at 6 p.m. at Off Square Books and later tonight at Proud Larry’s. Turn to Page 6 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town (No. 967) to read Jim Dees’ breakdown of Friedman and what to expect from the “gonzo troubadour” tonight on the Square. (February 23, 2012, Page 6)

It’s pronounced “Eye-Gor”

OXFORD TOWN – “Young Frankenstein,” the stage musical, hits the Oxford Town cover this week and the main stage at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19. Page 9 in this week’s issue of OT has complete information about the hilarious remake of the Mel Brooks classic movie coming to Ole Miss. (October 13, 2011, Page 9)
