MDOT

A man’s home is his castle — until …

Local columnist T.J. Ray writes about the freedom one feels after paying off a car or, even more, your house, and then wonders how those in that situation feel when eminent domain or the ruling of a preservation committee all but tells them their home is not really theirs alone. (April 10, 2015, Page 4A)

Watch out for workers, other drivers in work zones

It’s Work Zone Awareness Week and we urge everyone to watch out for workers who are, basically, in their office, when you drive by. We also encourage drivers to watch out for one another since most work zone accidents involve two or more vehicles and not actually workers. (March 23, 2015, Page 4)

Local columnist T.J. Most of us have dialed 4-1-1 on our phones to get someone’s number. We’ve been taught to dial 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. And we’ve heard about how you should “call 8-1-1 before you dig.” Did you know, though, that there are other quick dial numbers. Editor Don Whitten shares what he’s learned about 211, 311, 511 and others. (May 23, 2011, Page 4)
