Rebels topped by Western Kentucky

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco was not happy with his team’s performance on Wednesday night, that much was clear.

Following the Rebels’ 7-3 loss to Western Kentucky at Oxford-University Stadium, the Rebel skipper rattled off a laundry list of what went wrong. (March 10, 2011, Page 6)

Kirksey leads Rebels past Austin Peay

The story line for most of the early baseball season has been Ole Miss’ ability to find ways to win and Tuesday was no different as a Zach Kirksey sacrifice fly in the 10th inning lifted the No. 28 Rebels to a 5-4 victory over Austin Peay at Oxford-University Stadium.

Ole Miss trailed for the bulk of the game and after a two-run fourth put the Governors ahead 3-1, Ole Miss remained behind until an RBI-single from freshman Austin Anderson in the eighth inning tied the game 4-4 and eventually sent it into extra innings. (more…) (March 2, 2011, Page 6)

Tracy, Rebs all business in Memphis win

Rebels show resilience in sweep of Wright State

The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels had their fair share of hiccups this weekend.

What stood out and left a lasting impression, however, was the Rebels’ ability to recover quickly en route to a three-game sweep of Wright State at Oxford-University Stadium.

What pressure? Newalu confident heading into season as Rebs’ SS

Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco admitted on Monday that sometimes defense — well, reliable defense — can be taken for granted at times.

That was never more evident than in 2008, when the Rebels transitioned from Zack Cozart at shortstop to a combination of Sean Stuyverson, Tim Ferguson and Evan Button and the trio committed 27 errors.

The next two seasons, Ole Miss was lucky enough to have Kevin Mort restore order to the position and with any luck, the Rebels are hoping junior college transfer Blake Newalu will be an extension of Mort’s dependability. (February 16, 2011, Page 7)

Rebs persevere through weather to prepare for season

At times this preseason the Ole Miss baseball Rebels have felt like they called Minneapolis home instead of Oxford.

Due to the recent southern blizzards that shut down local school districts for days at a time, the Rebels have had a difficult couple of weeks leading up to Friday’s season opener against Wright State. (more…) (February 14, 2011, Page 8A)
