It’s been a long time coming for OM’s Orvis

It’s one thing to be a freshman and receive regular playing time, but it’s a completely different animal to receive sporadic pinch hit opportunities during your first season in the Southeastern Conference.

After coming to Ole Miss during the summer with a slugger’s reputation, freshman Sikes Orvis has been relegated to the latter role due in large part to some of the upperclassmen ahead of him on the depth chart, which is why what he accomplished Saturday is all the more special. Ole Miss sweeps Vols with Sunday win

Under a veil of mist and light rain on Sunday the Rebels accomplished what they hadn’t done in weeks, close out an Southeastern Conference series with a win.

No. 4 LSU blasts No. 24 Rebels to win series

It appears the Rebels aren’t done searching for a Sunday starter.

After splitting the first two games against No. 4 LSU, the No. 24 Rebels turned to a new starter Sunday for the third consecutive week.

Not only did Dylan Chavez get run from the game prematurely, but Ole Miss struggled to find any pitcher who could consistently put up zeros during the 12-3 loss at Oxford-University Stadium. (May 7, 2012, Page 6)
