The streak continues with Rebels’ sweep of MSU

STARKVILLE — For the second game in a row Rebel runs and Mississippi State fielding errors were not in short supply, as the Rebels capitalized on 15 hits and four errors to claim the 19-11 win at MSU’s Dudy Noble Field.

The game was halted after the seventh inning due to a severe thunderstorm warning in the area.

With the win, Ole Miss claims its first three-game sweep of MSU since 2005, and it’s first in Starkville since ’72.

Rebels rally late to win game, earn sweep

As Kevin Mort’s fly ball bounced into left field, and Taylor Hightower trotted safely home, LSU outfielder Leon Landry didn’t budge from his position. The damage had been done. Snyder OK after being bumped in celebration

Immediately following Ole Miss’ walk-off win on Sunday the Rebels had a bit of a scare when the often-injured Matt Snyder was bumped during the celebration.

As the players flooded onto the field following Kevin Mort’s walk-off single, Snyder ended up at the bottom of the dogpile.

Snyder, who has twice had his shoulder dislocated during games, had to be helped off the field — albeit only momentarily — before joining the team in left field for their post-game talk. (April 26, 2010, Page 2B)

Crouse, Smith shine in win over USM

For the second time in the last four games, Ole Miss starting pitchers have gone deep into games without surrendering a hit, but fell just short of tallying the Rebel program’s fifth no-hitter and first since Russ Johnson’s in 1966.

On Friday, Ole Miss ace Drew Pomeranz took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before having it broken up by a bunt single.

During Ole Miss’ 7-2 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday at Oxford-University Stadium, left-hander Matt Crouse had his bid broken in the top of the sixth when a pop-up from Southern Miss catcher Travis Graves dropped in for a hit between Alex Yarbrough and Miles Hamblin behind the first base bag. (April 21, 2010, Page 8)
