CHS Tigers no match for WVHS boys

The Water Valley Blue Devils basketball squad opened up the Valley Classic with a bang on Thursday, cruising to a 68-44 victory over Charleston at the WVHS gym, while the girls fell victim to too many turnovers in a 60-55 overtime loss to Charleston.

After mounting an early six-point lead after the first quarter, the Blue Devils’ offense never hit a lull and was able to extend its lead to as many as 36 early in the fourth quarter. (December 3, 2010, Page 9A)

WVHS hoops beats Coffeeville

Led by Eric Buckley’s 19-point effort, the Water Valley Blue Devils defeated Coffeeville 69-55 Tuesday night in the WVHS gym.

Devils win first game

Four Blue Devils honored

Two players each from the Water Valley girls and boys basketball teams were named recently to the All-Region 2-3A team.
Earning a spot on the girls team were C.C. Phillips and Ashley Phillips, while Tavi Toles and Matt Dalton both represent the boys team.

Jamelia Hoskins of Aberdeen was named the girls Player of the Year, while Anthony McDonald of Aberdeen won the boys top award. Latorrence Bivens of Aberdeen was named Girls Coach of the Year, while the Boys Coach of the year was Roy Hazzle of Aberdeen. (March 15, 2010)

Late surge keys Devils’ win

The Water Valley boys’ basketball team overcame a slow start to post a 60-52 win over North Pontotoc in the team’s final home game of the season Thursday night. Matt Dalton scored 15 points in the win, while adjustments made by coach John Sherman made a big difference down the stretch. (February 5, 2010, Page 8A)
