Blue Devils in all-star game
Water Valley senior Fred McGee will play in next month’s Northeast Mississippi Coaches Basketball Association All-Star game. The contest will be held on June 4 at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. McGee is the second Blue Devil chosen for the game joining teammate Matt Dalton on the roster. Fondren’s drive pays off for OHS Chargers
Oxford coach Drew Tyler knows a Most Valuable Player candidate when he sees one. After having 13 consecutive players who have won the EAGLE’s top boys basketball award over the years, Tyler has gained a great perspective as to what an individual has to do to obtain such recognition.
For 6-foot-2 OHS junior guard Justin Fondren, the recipe for success that ultimately allowed him to earn the 2011 EAGLE Player of Year award was his ability to do everything well. Dalton taking his game to Hendrix College
Consistent improvement as a guard this past season ultimately parlayed into an opportunity to play at the college level for Water Valley senior Matt Dalton.
The 6-foot-1 Blue Devil committed to play for Hendrix College after a visit to the Conway, Ark., based school this past weekend. Dalton said he reached a financial agreement with the Division III private school that is regarded as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation and has already been accepted. Talking to Water Valley boys coach John Sherman, you never would have known the final score of the Blue Devils’ Region 2-3A title game against the Aberdeen Bulldogs.

Blue Devils win with ease Tuesday

WVHS gets tough in latest victories
Two tough, hard-nosed efforts led to two wins for the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils in Division 2-3A action against Nettleton on Tuesday night in the WVHS gym.

Water Valley wins district opener
The Water Valley Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils basketball squads got their District 2-3A seasons off to good starts with wins over South Pontotoc on Friday night. Water Valley’s girls were led by Ashley Phillips, who scored the game-winning basket on a layup at the buzzer in a 59-58 win. She finished with 22 points, while C.C. Phillips also scored 22 points.
