Conference center scaling back

A growing trend in smaller conferences and less attendees is causing the Oxford Conference Center to rethink some of its sales strategy and find ways to cut out wasteful cost.
The Oxford Convention and Visitor Bureau’s budget is created through food and beverage taxes and a percentage of hotel/motel tax revenue and then profit from center rentals. A shrinking economy has caused a decline in all areas.

Doggy deadline for Double Decker

The city approved a new regulation for dogs to be restricted from the Square during the Double Decker Arts Festival in April after 2 p.m. The time was set to coincide with the ending of the Best Dressed Pet contest.

Festival lineup in place

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings will headline the 2010 Double Decker Arts Festival on April 24. Other bands in the lineup include Jimbo Mathus, Those Darlins, Wiley and the Checkmates, American Aquarium, The Felice Brothers and Groupo Fantasma. Additional performers, including more local acts, will be announced once contracts are signed. (January 20, 2010, Page 1)

UM reschedules Grove Bowl

Ultimately, University of Mississippi football coach Houston Nutt decided that scheduling three popular events on the same weekend was too much for the community to handle, so he decided this morning to move the date of the annual Grove Bowl. The new date has not yet been set. (January 13, 2010, Page 1)
