Oxford girls down New Albany

The Oxford Lady Chargers soccer team earned a 4-0 win over New Albany Tuesday night. Mary Helen Rychlak led the team with two goals scored. Maggie Mitchell added a goal off an assist from Maia Cotelo, while seventh-grader Zoe Scruggs added the final goal. Emily Meadows had three saves in goal for the Lady Chargers, while Megan Murphy also had a save in the split shutout. (November 17, 2010, Page 7)

Oxford teams finish third at state meet

A strong finish to the season in the Class 5A state meet helped lift the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers to third-place finishes Saturday at MHSAA Cross Country Championships held at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.

Five overall athletes earned All-State recognition for Oxford, including Callie Mayo, Emily Hankins and Audrey Dayan for the Lady Chargers and Lucian Duchaine and Fisher Austin for the Chargers. (November 8, 2010, Page 3B)

Oxford teams take home second place in division

Oxford’s final cross country meet before the MHSAA State Championships produced two second-place finishes for the Chargers and Lady Chargers in the Division 1-5A meet held in Saltillo Saturday.

Saltillo won both titles Saturday, while New Hope also competed in the meet. (November 1, 2010, Page 3B)

Kendricks proud of OHS’ showing at Invitational

Saturday’s Corinth Invitational proved to be  more than successful for the Oxford High cross country team as not only did the junior varsity boys place first and the girls place third out of seven teams, but the varsity boys came in fourth while the girls came in sixth out of 19 teams. (October 19, 2010, Page 8)

OHS cross country fares well at MC Invitational

Despite several runners being absent, the Oxford cross country team was still able to fare well at the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

While the varsity boys placed ninth and the girls placed 11th, the junior varsity boys took fifth place and the JV girls placed eighth. (October 11, 2010, Page 3B)

OHS varsity teams fare well at Mississippi State HS meet

Oxford’s boys and girls cross country teams competed in the MSU High School Invitational meet held Saturday. Both teams finished fifth overall.

The Chargers were led by Lucien Duchaine who finished ninth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. Marcus Barnes was 16th with a 19:06, Kevin Clancy was 25th with a 19:31, while Wilson Gardner rounded out the finishers with a 35th-place finish (20:03). Scott Parkin and Austin Carter also scored for the Chargers. (September 20, 2010, Page 4B)

Oxford teams perform well

Oxford’s girls and boys cross country teams both finished third in recent action at the Delta State Invitational.

The Lady Chargers were third out of 13 teams in the event, finishing behind Tupelo at Arlington, Tenn. (September 15, 2010, Page 8)

Lady Chargers capture inspirational first title

The best writer in Hollywood couldn’t have penned a better script or a more appropriate ending to how the Oxford Lady Chargers finished out the 2010 MHSAA Class 5A state meet at Pearl High Friday evening.

After years of doing well and consistently finishing in the top five of the team championships, the Lady Chargers finally broke through to win the school’s first team title. Oxford won Friday’s 5A title by totaling 89 points, the most ever in a state meet, and the Lady Chargers did it with a strong showing in field events as well as an inspirational finish in the 4×400 meter relay. (May 17, 2010, Page 1B)

Oxford track teams capture titles Monday

Two more all-around performances led to two more titles for the Oxford girls and boys track teams Monday at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers won the Region 1-5A meet by scoring 200 points, 83.5 points more than second-place finisher Indianola-Gentry. The Lady Chargers totaled 191.5 points, the most ever in a region meet, a figure that clearly outdistanced Gentry. (May 4, 2010, Page 8)
