Scholtz named SEC Freshman of Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ole Miss men’s tennis player Nik Scholtz was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, while Marcel Thiemann and Jonas Lutjen joined him on the All-SEC team. The announcements were made this morning.

Scholtz becomes the first player in the history of the program to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors. The Caledon, South Africa native, also named to the All-SEC first team and the All-Freshman Team, posted a 7-4 record in the SEC at No. 1 singles and teamed with Lutjen for a 9-2 league record in doubles.  Scholtz is presently ranked No. 13 in the nation in singles and doubles is the second highest ranked freshman in the country.  He was recently named to the SEC All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Rebels to the semifinals for the 15th time. (April 26, 2012, Page 6)

No. 14 Ole Miss Rebels host No. 9 Bulldogs

A final chance to watch the No. 14 Ole Miss men’s tennis team compete against the squad’s biggest rival comes Saturday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Ole Miss (11-6 overall, 7-3 Southeastern Conference) hosts No. 9 MSU (17-5, 8-2) in a match that will decide the SEC Western Division title as well as which team likely earns a host spot in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. (April 13, 2012, Page 6A)

Rebs looking to make noise on court

A trip to Hollywood last spring wasn’t enough of a consolation prize for Ole Miss men’s tennis coach Billy Chadwick. The Rebels’ long-time coach may not have been too far from Beverly Hills on May 12, 2011, but a win over UCLA in the second round of last season’s NCAA Tournament would have been worth more than anything located on the famed Rodeo Drive. Rebel tennis tames Memphis Tigers

The Ole Miss men’s tennis team has been looking forward to the start of Southeastern Conference play for awhile, but first they had to take care of business against a much improved Memphis team.  The Rebels did just that, shutting out the Tigers 4-0 Tuesday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Both Men and women’s tennis programs ranked No. 18

Rebels drop close match to No. 2 OSU

After dropping a tough doubles point, the No. 18 Ole Miss men’s tennis team fought back against No. 2 Ohio State, but in the end the Rebels’ efforts in the six singles matches fell short as the Buckeyes claimed a 4-2 victory at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Wednesday (April 15, 2010, Page 6)

Rebels host Auburn, Alabama this weekend

A final push to capture the Southeastern Conference Western Division title begins this weekend for the Ole Miss men’s tennis team. The Rebels (13-5 overall, 4-4 in the SEC) host Auburn (8-9, 4-4) at 2 p.m. Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center and then Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m. (April 8, 2010, Page 6)
