Chargers win 9th-grade Crosstown Classic
Rivalry week got off to a good start for fans and players associated with the Oxford Chargers as the ninth-grade football team defeated Lafayette 34-0 at William L. Buford Stadium Monday night.
The Chargers (2-0 overall) were never challenged in the contest that started with a penalty and an interception on offense for Lafayette (1-1). The Chargers’ offense was literally not stopped in the first half. They scored on five of six possessions — the sixth possession was a 3-yard carry by Kenzie Phillips to run out the remainder of the clock — while quarterback Jack Abraham finished the first 20 minutes 8-for-10 for 151 yards and five scores. As impressive as the offense was for the Chargers, the defense swarmed to the football like coach Jason Russell likes to see. (August 28, 2012, Page 6)
