Chargers rout West Point for share of 2-5A title

Not even Oxford’s most productive night of offense could separate the top two teams in Division 2-5A boys soccer standings. The Chargers wrapped up division play with little resistance Friday, finding the back of the net early and often in a 14-0 rout of West Point on Senior Night at Bobby Holcomb Field to secure a share of the division title with Saltillo. (January 18, 2015, Page 1B, 4B)

Lafayette uses PKs, defense to sweep Oxford

Oxford and Lafayette met at Bobby Holcomb on Field Tuesday night, but it was not for a football rematch. This installment of the cross-town rivalry happened on the pitch between the high school boys and girls soccer teams.  In the boys game, it looked as if Oxford would coast to an easy win over Lafayette, leading 3-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining. But Lafayette didn’t fade into the cold night quietly and fired off three quick goals of its own to knot the game at 3, sending it to an overtime shootout. After two rounds of penalty kicks, the Commodores emerged with a 4-3 victory. (December 10, 2014, Page 1B)
