Blue Devils down Charleston

Water Valley’s seventh-grade boys defeated Charleston 12-8 Thursday night to improve to 3-5 on the year. Makedrius Gooch led the Blue Devils with seven points. The seventh-grade girls also posted a win over Charleston thanks to a late steal and layup. The eighth-grade boys lost 14-12 to Charleston. The team was led by A.J. Hawkins’ four points. All four teams will be back in action Monday at home against Charleston starting at 4 p.m. (January 7, 2011, Page 8A)

Water Valley sweeps Pope

Water Valley swept Pope Middle School on the hardwood on Monday, with the seventh-grade boys winning 17-9, the seventh-grade girls winning 13-11 and the eighth-grade boys claiming an 11-9 victory.

Keauana Sarrow and Tierra Turner led the seventh-grade girls with seven and six points respectively. In the seventh-grade boys game, Cooper Clements and Makedrius Gooch had team-highs with seven and five points respectively, while Skyler Defer led the eighth-grade squad with four points. Water Valley returns to the hardwood on Nov. 29, traveling to Coffeeville. (November 16, 2010, Page 3B)

Water Valley, Lafayette split games

Lafayette and Water Valley split four games to open the middle school basketball season for both programs Tuesday in the WVHS gym. The seventh-grade Commodores defeated Water Valley 26-7, while the eighth-grade Blue Devils rallied to post a 15-13 win in the nightcap.

Lafayette’s seventh-grade girls lost 16-7 to the Lady Blue Devils, while Water Valley’s eighth-grade were defeated 12-10. (November 3, 2010, Page 6)
