Lafayette still had season to remember

In the world of sports, more often than not success is measured in wins and losses, titles won and records set.

But in all honesty, there’s much more to sports than what goes in the scoreboard section of a newspaper and this season the Lafayette Commodores proved just that.

Sure, they didn’t make it out of the second round of the Class 4A MHSAA playoffs, but so what?

This season was one to remember for the Lafayette Commodores and their dedicated fans. (May 11, 2010, Page 9)

Stanley, Lafayette force Game 3 with close win on Saturday

Lafayette didn’t need any extra motivation to defeat Amory at home in the second game of the MHSAA’s Class 4A playoff series between the two Saturday night. Facing a must-win situation after losing 5-3 to the Panthers on the road Friday, the Commodores responded with a 4-3 victory to even the series and set up tonight’s elimination game at Amory at 7. (May 10, 2010, Page 1B)

Commodores clobber Lions

Friday’s doubleheader against Tunica-Rosa Fort proved to be a good transition series for the Lafayette Commodores baseball team.

Playing their first games without three starters who were dismissed from the team earlier in the week, the Commodores defeated the Lions 20-0 and 15-0 in two mercy-ruled games at W.V. Brewer Field. (April 19, 2010, Page 4B)

Lewisburg RHP shuts down ‘Dores

A dominant pitching performance from Lewisburg’s Aaron Greenwood left Lafayette coach Greg Lewis a little bummed out on his birthday and the Commodores with their first Region 2-4A loss on the season.

Greenwood held the Commodores hitless through the first six innings of an 8-4 win by the Patriots at W.V. Brewer Field Tuesday night and ended up with nine strikeouts. (April 7, 2010, Page 6)

Lafayette baseball rallies to top Senatobia

The Lafayette baseball team has had a way with living on the edge since division play started, and whatever it’s doing is apparently working.
On Thursday, the Commodores were once again able to overcome adversity and rally in the sixth inning to defeat the Senatobia Warriors 8-7 at W.V. Brewer Field. (April 2, 2010, Page 6A)
