A balanced scoring ledger for both the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers basketball squads ended up leading to home wins over Coldwater Thursday night. Oxford’s boys defeated Coldwater 83-55 to improve to 5-1 on the year, while the Lady Chargers played another great team game in a 68-63 win. (November 19, 2010, Page 7A)

Oxford High’s two varsity basketball teams had a successful trip to DeSoto County Tuesday as both earned wins in the Horn Lake Tournament. The Lady Chargers beat Southaven 61-58, while the Chargers overcame a 12-point first quarter deficit to post a 69-67 win over Hernando. Oxford’s girls opened the season with a one-sided 78-36 win over the Lady Cardinals, while the Chargers followed the girls lead in the nightcap as they rolled to a 90-49 win. (November 9, 2010, Page 8)
Lafyette’s Josh Mills and Jarrett Patton will join Oxford’s Luke Gibbs on this year’s District 2 All-Star team that will compete in the annual State Games of Mississippi next week.
The three area players were selected to join 15 other players from the Northwest Mississippi area after having a successful tryout on June 2 at NWCC.
The team will be coached by Olive Branch’s Chris Chambliss, while the annual tournament begins Thursday and runs through June 27 at Meridian Community College.

For the second night in a row, one inning proved to be the difference in a win and a loss for the Oxford Chargers baseball team. In the Chargers’ 3-1 loss to the Hernando Tigers to conclude Day 3 of the Oxford Spring Break Tournament at Edwin Moak Field, Oxford surrendered two runs on five hits in the fifth inning and were never able to recover. Led by Ole Miss signee Casey Greene, the DeSoto Central Jaguars defeated the Oxford Chargers 10-4 Tuesday night at Edwin Moak Field. Greene hit two home runs — including a grand slam in a six-run sixth inning — and drove in seven runs to lift the Jaguars past the Chargers, who had won three straight coming into the contest.
