Nine area runners earn top recognition this year
Dedication and perseverance proved to be two of the main reasons why Oxford and Lafayette had such successful cross country seasons this fall. In a year where both programs had to rely on underclassmen to not only fill out the roster, but perform at a high level, having nine runners earn the distinction of being All-State was a tremendous achievement.
The Lady Chargers and Lady Commodores each had three runners finish in the top 14 at the state meet held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton on Nov. 6. Earning All-State from Oxford were sophomore Callie Mayo, eighth-grader Emily Hankins and sophomore Audrey Dayan. (December 2, 2010, Page 1B)

Oxford’s boys and girls cross country teams competed in the MSU High School Invitational meet held Saturday. Both teams finished fifth overall.
The Chargers were led by Lucien Duchaine who finished ninth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. Marcus Barnes was 16th with a 19:06, Kevin Clancy was 25th with a 19:31, while Wilson Gardner rounded out the finishers with a 35th-place finish (20:03). Scott Parkin and Austin Carter also scored for the Chargers. (September 20, 2010, Page 4B)
