Rebel seniors reflect on good memories
Saturday evening’s game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the annual “Egg Bowl” will be the final home contest for 18 Ole Miss seniors. The class, which includes safeties Johnny Brown and Fon Ingram, linebacker Jonathan Cornell, and Oxford native Zach Brent, helped changed the fortune of the program over the past few seasons with back-to-back trips to the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.
Two of the seniors who will honored before Saturday’s game, defensive tackle Jerrell Powe and defensive end Kentrell Lockett, could return next year, but for the majority of the class, the matchup with the Bulldogs will be the final time the group gets to put on the red and blue together. Bolden continues to run well for Rebels
There were no bright spots to talk about for the Ole Miss offense in Saturday’s 52-14 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium with the exception of the running of junior Brandon Bolden.
Bolden carried the ball 12 times for 113 yards and scored both of the team’s touchdowns in a game that was essentially decided by the start of the third quarter.
The two scores for Bolden raised his season total to 11 on the year and 20 in his career, while his rushing effort gave him five games of over 100 yards. (November 15, 2010, Page 2B)
Rebs snap streak, top ULL 43-21

More focus needed for Rebels to make a turnaround
Focus and leaning on a few seniors are two of the many ways Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt was planning on turning around the Rebels’ fortunes Saturday night when they host Fresno State at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
A 1-2 start to the season, against teams that are not the best on the Rebels’ schedule, is not what Nutt and his staff anticipated in preseason.
But instead of dwelling on the slow start and feeling sorry about where the team is, Nutt said the only medicine is to get back to work and ultimately earn a win. (September 21, 2010, Page 6)
Rebels’ D takes a toll on quarterbacks
Ole Miss’ football practice on Tuesday was one dominated by the defense and the rain. Shortly after the punting and place-kicking work was completed, heavy rain and wind forced the action inside. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said the offense and defense ran 80 plays and did everything but tackle to the ground.
The Rebel defense, led by players such as defensive end Kentrell Lockett, forced several mistakes by quarterbacks Nathan Stanley, Jeremiah Masoli and Randall Mackey during the practice. (August 18, 2010, Page 8)
Rebel D dominates in first scrimmage
It’s been no surprise that Ole Miss’ most experienced unit, the defensive line, set the tone during the first week of spring drills.
The Rebels’ first scrimmage on Friday at Vaught Hemingway Stadium was no different as the unit of Jerrell Powe, Lawon Scott, Ted Laurent, Kentrell Lockett, Wayne Dorsey and others made life difficult on the youthful offensive line and quarterbacks. (April 5, 2010, Page 7A)
Dorsey has impressed early in UM spring drills
Only four days into spring drills and junior college transfer Wayne Dorsey is already turning heads, and it’s not just because he’s 6-foot-8, 255-pounds — although that helps.
The junior defensive end from Gulf Coast Community College has been a standout on the practice field and is already playing with the first team. (April 1, 2010, Page 7)
