It was a different setting, but the song remained the same when the Oxford and Lafayette Middle School basketball teams met for the second time this season Thursday evening. This time, the crosstown rivalry was held inside the Oxford High gym. Much like the last meeting on Nov. 17 at the Lafayette High gym the Oxford boys swept their pair of games over the Commodores starting with a 28-7 win in the seventh-grade game. The Crosstown Classic hit the hardwood for the first time this season when Oxford Middle School traveled down Highway 6 to play Lafayette Middle School inside the LHS gym Monday night. It was all Chargers on the boys’ side of things as Oxford swept the seventh- and eighth-grade games. In the seventh-grade game, the Chargers (6-0) won decisively over the Commodores, 27-5. The game was never in doubt as Oxford had full command due to a strong defensive effort. The Lafayette Middle School girls swept Oxford in both games. (November 18, 2014, Page 7)
