SEC NOTEBOOK: Targeting rule, ejections draw mixed reviews

In light of football’s ever-growing concussion crisis, the game is taking precautions at all levels to increase the safety of players.
College football did its part this past offseason to enhance the safety of its players with the introduction of the targeting penalty, where defensive players who hit, or “target,” defenseless ball carriers in the head with the crown of their helmet will automatically be ejected from the game in addition to costing their team 15 yards. (September 26, 2013, Page 8)
