That was never more evident than in 2008, when the Rebels transitioned from Zack Cozart at shortstop to a combination of Sean Stuyverson, Tim Ferguson and Evan Button and the trio committed 27 errors.
The next two seasons, Ole Miss was lucky enough to have Kevin Mort restore order to the position and with any luck, the Rebels are hoping junior college transfer Blake Newalu will be an extension of Mort’s dependability. (February 16, 2011, Page 7)

It went down to the final minutes, but Ole Miss pitcher Drew Pomeranz is now a professional baseball player.
Just before Monday’s midnight EDT deadline, the All-American pitcher signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians organization.
According to the Associated Press, the contract includes a $2.65 million signing bonus, which is just over the Major League Baseball suggested slot price for the No. 5 player ($2.52 million). (August 17, 2010, Page 6)
After admittedly taking a few games to adjust to the feel of maple in his hands as opposed to aluminum, Yarbrough got on a roll for the CPL’s Thomasville Hi-Toms and this past week he was named the CPL’s Hitter of the Week (Yarbrough hit .464 in seven games with two triples and four doubles). Although the 5-foot-11 shortstop hit .284 for the Rebels during his senior season, he held out hope a team would take a chance and select him in part because of his superb defense.
After the three-day draft concluded on June 9, Mort was hanging out when his cell phone rang. On the other end was a scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates offering Mort a chance to keep his baseball career alive.
It took no time at all for Mort to agree to sign with the Pirates organization. (June 18, 2010, Page 6A)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The rematch most envisioned when the NCAA Tournament’s field of 64 teams was announced earlier this week is just moments away. Fresh off of wins over St. John’s and VCU respectively, the No. 2 seed Ole Miss Rebels and No. 1 seed Virginia Cavaliers are about to take the field.
