Chargers shut out Senatobia in 9th grade game

Led by a defensive unit that has only allowed one touchdown all season, the Oxford Chargers’ ninth-grade football team defeated Senatobia 28-0 Tuesday night. The 4-0 Chargers, who have outscored their opponents 145-6, were praised by coach Jason Russell for their play on defense. “We were lights out and we really had to play hard against a good, athletic Senatobia team.” Jack Abraham led the Chargers on offense as he passed for two of the four touchdowns scored. Abraham finished the game 11-for-16 for 171 yards, while Kenzie Phillips scored twice on runs of 2 and 56 yards. Oxford finished with 302 yards of total offense and scored a touchdown in each quarter. The Chargers will return to action Monday against Center Hill. (September 12, 2012, Page 7)

OMS football splits with Senatobia in season finale

Oxford Middle School completed its football season on Tuesday by splitting with the Senatobia Warriors. While the seventh grade fell to Senatobia 14-8, the eighth grade rolled to a 35-0 victory.

SENATOBIA — A clean sweep. That’s what the Oxford seventh- and eighth-grade football teams earned Thursday with wins over Senatobia.

The seventh-grade Chargers started the doubleheader with a 30-14 win, while the eighth-grade Chargers won the nightcap 34-8. (September 23, 2011, Page 7A)

BATESVILLE — The Oxford Middle School football squads made quick work of South Panola on the road Thursday with the seventh-grade squad claiming a 20-8 victory, while the eighth-grade Chargers earned a 14-8 victory. (September 9, 2011, Page 9A)

Oxford, Lafayette both win in middle school clash

The crosstown rivalry between those in the Lafayette and Oxford School Districts knows no bounds and does not discriminate by age group.

Tuesday’s action on the gridiron proved that when the Oxford seventh graders claimed a 20-8 victory, while the Lafayette eighth-grade squad was able to hold on for a big 20-16 win. (August 31, 2011, Page 6A)

Chargers sweep South Pontotoc

The Oxford seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams had no problem pulling off a sweep of South Pontotoc Thursday night in the teams first action since the Christmas break. The eighth-graders defeated South Pontotoc 48-25 thanks to 13 points from Josh Gibbs, eight points from K.T. McCollins and seven points each from David Dennis and Michael McGhee. McGhee and McCollins each had five blocks in the win for the Chargers, who are now 12-2 overall.
