BLOG: Chargers roll into second round with 62-14 win over Ridgeland

Oxford could do, and did, whatever it wanted to Friday night and there was nothing Ridgeland could do about it. The Chargers (11-1) defeated the Titans (5-7) 62-14 in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 5A state playoffs at Bobby Holcomb Field. (more…) (November 14, 2014)

Chargers score early, often in coach-pleasing victory

LAKE CORMORANT — After Friday’s OHS-Lake Cormorant game was over, Oxford coach Johnny Hill huddled his team up at midfield and told it one thing. They “played like Chargers.” That comment is relevant because to Hill, his team had not looked like the Oxford Chargers that he knew and felt his team was out of sync last week against Center Hill. On Friday night, he could not make the same complaint as the Chargers (10-1, 7-0 Region 1-5A) dominated Lake Cormorant (0-11, 0-7) 49-13 in the regular season finale. (November 9, 2014, Page 4B)

Chargers want first string to stay sharp in finale

OHS locks up region title on Senior Night

On a cold, subdued night at Bobby Holcomb Field, it was the return of a Charger stalwart that warmed up the Oxford faithful. After a month on the sideline with an injury, junior quarterback Jack Abraham made his return to help Oxford cap off Senior Night with a Region 1-5A championship. (November 2, 2014, Page 5B)

Chargers clinch playoff spot; now playing for top seed.

CLARKSDALE — The execution was spotty throughout, but Oxford did enough Friday night to ensure itself of playing beyond the regular season. The Chargers got a pair of early touchdowns against Clarksdale and were never seriously threatened by the Wildcats, clinching a spot in next month’s MHSAA Class 5A playoffs with a 17-0 victory at Crumpton Field. (October 26, 2014, Page 5B)
