Lady Devils show fight in loss to NHS

An improved effort wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils past the defending Class 3A state champion Nettleton Lady Tigers on Tuesday night. Water Valley dropped its season opener 10-2 to the Lady Tigers, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season en route to the title. (more…) (March 2, 2011, Page 7)

Robison’s return to LHS makes impact on team

The final chapter in Stormy Robison’s prep softball career has turned out to be another stepping stone for the ever improving Lafayette Lady Commodore softball program.

After spending two seasons at South Panola, Robison returned to LHS this past season to finish out her stellar career at the place she has always felt very comfortable at.

While Robison wasn’t ultimately able to push LHS to even greater heights in the Class 4A playoffs, her leadership qualities and strong work ethic definitely made an impression on a young LHS team that is expected to be strong over the next few years.

Robison said she really enjoyed her time with her teammates this year and added that she never felt any pressure from them to help them win a state title like she helped the Lady Tigers do in 2008. (June 24, 2010, Page 1B)

Nettleton eliminates WVHS

Nettleton too much for WVHS

It was no secret that the Nettleton Lady Tigers softball team was a good team.

On Thursday, Nettleton displayed just how good they really were, defeating the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils 13-1 in five innings to take Game 1 of their Class 3A playoff series. (April 30, 2010, Page 8A)

WVHS nips Oxford in extra innings

PREP SOFTBALL — The Water Valley Lady Blue Devils overcame bitterly cold temperatures to defeat the Oxford Lady Chargers 16-15 in the fastpitch softball opener for both teams Tuesday night at Stone Park. Courtney True drove in the game-winning RBI for the Lady Blue Devils in the top of the eighth inning, while pitcher Kelsey Kimzey secured the win in the circle after fielding a ground ball she coaxed OHS into hitting in the bottom of the frame. (March 2, 2010, Page 9)
