Lady Chargers steamroll Southwind

Oxford’s press, led by Alexus and Kyla Malone up front and a bevy of guards in the back, led the Lady Chargers to another one-sided win over the weekend. OHS jumped out to a 19-0 lead and didn’t allow Southwind to score until the 2:50 mark of the first quarter en route to a 69-40 win Saturday night in the annual Coach “C” Shootout in the Lafayette gym.

A night after the Lady Chargers (8-2 overall) defeated Amory 63-11, they wasted little time using their press to take down the visitors from Memphis. (December 10, 2012, Page 2B)

OHS girls pound Grenada on defense

Grenada’s girls basketball team must have felt thinner after they left the Oxford High gym Thursday night thanks to the pressing Oxford’s Lady Chargers gave them. Utilizing a new 2-2-1 press on defense, Oxford dismantled Grenada 71-28 in a game that was very reminiscent of last year for an OHS team that routinely got up big on teams and pounded them into submission before halftime. Oxford wasn’t as fortunate in the nightcap as Grenada won the boys’ contest 68-55. (November 9, 2012, Page 6A)
