Lafayette set to face familiar opponent in SHS Red Raiders

Lafayette’s first game back in the state following last Saturday’s thrilling win over Evangel Christian Academy (La.) comes against a familiar team in the Shannon Red Raiders.

The No. 1 ranked Commodores (4-0 overall) have routinely played the Red Raiders (2-2) in the playoffs over the years and almost all of the games have been competitive. LHS last played at Shannon in the 2009 Class 4A playoffs with the Commodores earning a 23-14 win in the North Half semifinal contest. LHS coach Anthony Hart said Shannon looks similar to typical Red Raider squads. (September 15, 2011, Page 6)

LHS dominates Greenwood

GREENWOOD — Prior to the season, Lafayette coach Anthony Hart called Friday night’s matchup with Greenwood a “sandwich” game because it came in between the highly anticipated opener with Tupelo and the annual Crosstown Classic matchup with the Oxford Chargers.

Fortunately for Hart, the only thing that got sandwiched were the Greenwood Bulldogs, who proved to be no real challenge in a 42-0 loss to the Commodores. (more…) (August 29, 2011, Page 1B)

LHS shows its skills in O-Zone Classic

An experienced group of skill players from Lafayette showed this weekend at the O-Zone Classic why the Commodores are expected to win a second straight Class 4A state title.

Led by quarterback Jeremy Liggins, Lafayette won the Group A title in the second annual 7-on-7 tournament held at FNC Park. (more…) (July 11, 2011, Page 6)

Lafayette lifters experienced, looking for more accolades

Experienced lifters is a common thread the Lafayette girls and boys powerlifting teams share this year. A season after the Commodores won the Class 4A title and the Lady Commodores finished third in the state in its Class II division, several lifters who were on those teams return to both squads in the attempt to repeat those lofty results.
