Wildcats crash Water Valley’s Homecoming
WATER VALLEY — After throttling their opponents to the tune of 105-0 in their first two games of the season, the Water Valley Blue Devils were humbled Friday, losing to Calhoun City 16-14 at Bobby Clark field.

Several Blue Devils make MAC 3A Team
Several Water Valley Blue Devils were honored on Wednesday for their standout play on the football field.
Included on the 2010 Mississippi Association of Coaches’ Class 3A All-State Team were first teamers, linebacker J.D. Fondon, safety/running back Eric Buckley and long snapper Fred McGee. Cornerback/receiver Chris Conard was named to the second team, while linebacker C.J. Jackson, lineman Tommy Lipscomb and punter John Michael Grimmett were named as honorable mentions. Devils’ Fondon a student of the game
Friday’s game against Winona for Water Valley was a must-win in the eyes of the Blue Devils. It wasn’t a win-or-you’re-out of the playoffs type must-win, but a must-win in the sense of playoff seeding.
With Water Valley’s 31-21 victory, the Blue Devils locked up a second-place spot in Region 2-3A that will have them hosting either Corinth or Kossuth in the first round of the playoffs. (October 26, 2010, Page 9)
Water Valley survives OT scare
It took late-game heroics, but the Water Valley Blue Devils were able to survive an overtime scare to defeat the Bruce Trojans 13-7 Friday at Bobby Clark Field.
“You win football games by fighting and scrapping and we did that,” WVHS coach Brad Embry told his team after the game. “It doesn’t matter how you get it done on Friday night.”
Senior Eric Buckley scored on a 4-yard run to open the overtime period, but a botched extra-point attempt gave the Trojans a chance to go ahead on the ensuing possession.
