Fondren picks UA from list of suitors

For an athlete that pays attention to heights and has to evaluate situations with his eyes and brain as much as anything, Oxford high jumper Justin Fondren has a great idea of how to measure an important decision and special moment in his life.

Fondren’s latest birthday present today included a scholarship offer from the University of Alabama. His signature on the National Letter of Intent not only secured money for his future education, but a chance to learn a lot from arguably the best high jump coach in the nation in Dick Booth. OHS locks up Region 2-5A titles

Region championships are something the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers are used to winning, so Friday’s accomplishments are no surprise.

Oxford sweeps Saltillo in hoops action

Oxford’s varsity basketball teams earned two region wins over Saltillo on Tuesday night. The Lady Chargers remained undefeated and grabbed a share of the regular season region title with a 91-49 win over the Lady Tigers. Oxford’s boys improved to 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the region thanks to a 67-48 win. Erika Sisk led the Lady Chargers with a 27 points and eight steals. (more…) (January 26, 2012, Page 7)

Oxford earns road wins over LHS

Tuesday’s nightcap involving the Oxford Chargers and Lafayette Commodores literally came down to one play. In a game that was as emotionally charged as any recent contest between Lafayette and Oxford on the basketball court, it was the Chargers who got the better of the Commodores in a 55-53 win in the LHS gym. Lady Chargers, Trojans earn region wins

A setback at home is not how Oxford Charger coach Drew Tyler wanted to start the Region 1-5A schedule. The Chargers’ first loss in the OHS gym unfortunately came against their most important opponent to date in New Hope.

Despite a second-half surge that saw the Chargers get to within two points twice in the final 1:15, the Trojans were able to hang on and defeat OHS 54-50. (January 9, 2012, Page 6)

Oxford teams earn sweep in ‘O’ Town opener

Fast only partial describes the way the Oxford Lady Chargers looked and played in the first half of their 70-49 win over North Panola in their first game of the “O” Town Showdown Wednesday night. OHS boys sweep Senatobia
