Lafayette girls basketball coach Amy Sutton didn’t expect to see her team playing an overtime session against Holly Springs on Tuesday in the LHS gym. Neither did Lafayette’s boys coach Nacoma James, who also saw his team play an extra period.

Lafayette’s football players dominated the Region 2-4A team, which was voted on and released Thursday by the region’s coaches. Quarterback Jeremy Liggins was named Player of the Year. Focus is a word that has been used by both Lafayette coach Anthony Hart and his players this week when talking about the Greenwood Bulldogs. The No. 1 Commodores host the Bulldogs, a team they defeated 42-0 in the second game of the season, Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium in the second round of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs.
Hart said he started to get an idea that the Bulldogs had improved since the two teams played when he started talking about the playoff scenarios with his team. (November 10, 2011, Page 6)
