Practice pays off for Water Valley

WATER VALLEY — A week filled with practices that concentrated on hitting definitely paid dividends for the Water Valley Blue Devils in their two Region 2-3A games this past week. Three nights after dispatching South Pontotoc 12-2, the Blue Devils secured a spot in the upcoming Class 3A playoffs with a 9-1 win over Nettleton at home Friday. (April 19, 2010, Page 3B)

Johnson’s pitching lifts Blue Devils to region win Friday

A standout pitching performance from Josh Johnson proved to be the difference for the WVHS Blue Devils in their 4-2 Region 2-3A win over South Pontotoc on  Friday night. In a game where the Blue Devils struggled at the plate, it was Johnson’s ability to mow down Cougar batters that carried the team. Johnson finished with 13 strikeouts and didn’t allow a run until the seventh with two outs. (March 29, 2010, Page 2B)

Blue Devils fall flat on final day of tournament

Blue Devils win two one-sided affairs

Water Valley’s winning streak reached five games with two wins in the Oxford Spring Break Tournament Monday at Edwin Moak Field. The Blue Devils beat Horn Lake 11-6 and Senatobia 8-0. Josh Johnson earned the win on the mound in the win over the Warriors by pitching a complete game, while an eight-run fifth inning helped lift the Blue Devils over the Eagles. (March 16, 2010, Page 6A)

Charleston no match for Diamond Blue Devils

WVHS BASEBALL — The Charleston Tigers were no match for Water Valley on Tuesday. The Blue Devils battled a chilly night to sweep Charleston in a home doubleheader 16-1, 17-0. (March 3, 2010, Page 9)
