Practice pays off for Water Valley
WATER VALLEY — A week filled with practices that concentrated on hitting definitely paid dividends for the Water Valley Blue Devils in their two Region 2-3A games this past week. Three nights after dispatching South Pontotoc 12-2, the Blue Devils secured a spot in the upcoming Class 3A playoffs with a 9-1 win over Nettleton at home Friday. (April 19, 2010, Page 3B)

Johnson’s pitching lifts Blue Devils to region win Friday
A standout pitching performance from Josh Johnson proved to be the difference for the WVHS Blue Devils in their 4-2 Region 2-3A win over South Pontotoc on Friday night. In a game where the Blue Devils struggled at the plate, it was Johnson’s ability to mow down Cougar batters that carried the team. Water Valley’s winning streak reached five games with two wins in the Oxford Spring Break Tournament Monday at Edwin Moak Field. The Blue Devils beat Horn Lake 11-6 and Senatobia 8-0. Josh Johnson earned the win on the mound in the win over the Warriors by pitching a complete game, while an eight-run fifth inning helped lift the Blue Devils over the Eagles.
