Oxford’s reversal of fortune on the gridiron this season was a result of many different players. OHS to open ‘13 against Jackson Prep
Johnny Hill’s desire to make future football schedules tougher on the gridiron is reflected in the 2013 edition. The Oxford Chargers open the year against Jackson Prep on Aug. 23 in a game that could be played at Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Jackets stop OHS short of goal
STARKVILLE — Oxford’s goal of matching up with West Point in the MHSAA Class 5A North Half title game next week was derailed Friday night. While West Point defeated Ridgeland to reach the contest that determines half of the 5A title matchup in Jackson, the Chargers were beaten 28-7 by the Starkville Yellowjackets to end their season. Starkville next up for OHS in 5A playoffs
Oxford heads into Friday’s MHSAA Class 5A playoff matchup with Starkville with confidence coming off a 27-14 win against Provine in the first round. OHS coach Johnny Hill said there is no reason his team shouldn’t feel confident after defeating the Rams or even after compiling a 10-1 record in the regular season. (November 15, 2012, Page 8)

Late score catapults OHS past ‘Cats
CLARKSDALE — Friday’s regular season finale for the Oxford Chargers came down to one play made on offense and a couple turned in by the defense. For the Chargers to avoid a second straight loss heading into the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs, a deep throw from Parker Adamson to Glenn Gordon and a key stop on defense resulted in a hard-fought 14-11 win. Chargers not pulling off gas against CHS
Oxford’s regular season finale at Clarksdale doesn’t have a bearing on the Chargers making the Class 5A playoffs, but OHS coach Johnny Hill is treating it like any other contest in the attempt to maintain heading into the first round Nov. 9.
