Johnny Brown

Rebels name captains

The Ole Miss football team kicked off the first game week of the season by announcing its 2010 team captains Sunday night in a team meeting at the Overby Center on campus.

The captains, which were voted on by the players last weekend, include WR Lionel Breaux (New Orleans, La.), S Johnny Brown (Charleston), LB Jonathan Cornell (Azusa, Calif.), DE Kentrell Lockett (Hahnville, La.) and DT Jerrell Powe (Waynesboro). (more…) (August 30, 2010, Page 3B)

Nutt holds off on QB decision

The announcement everyone has been waiting for will take at least another couple of days.

Following Ole Miss’ practice on Tuesday head coach Houston Nutt said that while he knows who will be getting the nod at quarterback, an extenuating circumstance is preventing him from clarifying publically who will be getting the bulk of the snaps under center. (August 25, 2010, Page 8)

QB competition beginning to narrow, Mackey odd man out?

The eventual quarterback separation that has been discussed briefly over the last week looks like it is underway. (more…) (August 21, 2010)

Rebels’ D takes a toll on quarterbacks

Ole Miss’ football practice on Tuesday was one dominated by the defense and the rain. Shortly after the punting and place-kicking work was completed, heavy rain and wind forced the action inside. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said the offense and defense ran 80 plays and did everything but tackle to the ground.

The Rebel defense, led by players such as defensive end Kentrell Lockett, forced several mistakes by quarterbacks Nathan Stanley, Jeremiah Masoli and Randall Mackey during the practice. (August 18, 2010, Page 8)

Brown learning to be more vocal

Life isn’t exactly easy if you’re the lone returning senior in the Ole Miss secondary.

For the soft spoken Johnny Brown, being the elder statesmen in a unit that lost three seniors means speaking up more often and being more of a leader.

Brown admits that’s something that will take some getting used to. (June 24, 2010, Page 2B)

Rebels strap on pads for Day 3

For the first time this spring the Ole Miss football Rebels strapped on their pads on Monday for Day 3 of practice.
With the Rebels still getting their feet wet after over two months away from the gridiron, errors weren’t few and far in between. (March 30, 2010, Page 9)
