Late-inning tag lifts Lafayette past Kosciusko

KOSCIUSKO — A dive, a drive and an outstanding individual effort on the mound proved to be the winning formula for the Lafayette Commodores to earn a 2-1 win over Kosciusko in the decisive game of a best-of-three Class 4A playoff series on Saturday.

LHS (22-5 overall) was able to advance to a second round matchup with North Pontotoc by holding off the Whippets when it mattered most. After LHS opened the series with an 11-3 win at home on Friday night, Kosciusko defeated the Commodores 9-4 in the second game to force the winner-take-all third game.

LHS baseball downs Byhalia

The Commodores scored early and often in their 18-1 win over Byhalia on Monday night. In the second to last region game of the year, LHS (19-4 overall, 8-1 in region play) scored six runs in the top of the first inning, eight in the second and four in the fourth. Lafayette baseball rolls Center Hill

Lafayette’s potent lineup led the Commodores to two one-sided wins over Center Hill and New Albany over the weekend. The Commodores defeated Center Hill 13-2 on Friday night to remain perfect (6-0) in Region 2-4A play, while the ‘Dores smacked around the Bulldogs for the second time this year in a 14-9 win at New Albany. Gibbs’ big hit leads OHS past Lafayette

The Lafayette baseball team proved on Friday night that good practices can be parlayed into big-time games.

Pitching propels ‘Dores to double-dip success

It wasn’t that the Diamond ‘Dores racked up 12 runs in two victories on Wednesday that impressed Lafayette head coach Greg Lewis.

‘Dores drop two games in Pontotoc

Two early season tests ended up being valuable learning experiences for the Lafayette Commodores Thursday night in the Pontotoc Tournament.

LHS falls just short at Amory

AMORY — Five runs in the first inning were all it took for the Amory Panthers to claim Game 1 of its Class 4A second round matchup against the Lafayette Commodores 5-3 on Friday.
