Chargers clobber field to win 5A
The Oxford Chargers’ second trip to the Columbus Country Club in a matter of two weeks produced a third MHSAA state golf title for the program Wednesday. Just two weeks after capturing the Division 2-5A golf championship in Columbus, the Chargers returned to Columbus and wiped away the competition in Class 5A.
A day after finishing the first round in third place with a 339, the Chargers blistered the field on the final day with a round of 326 to finish with a 665, 11 strokes better than second-place finisher Pearl River Central. West Jones finished third overall with a 678. East Central shot a 689 to finish fourth, while Pascagoula was fifth with a 703. A total of 12 schools competed in the match. (May 10, 2012, Page 6)
Deep Chargers ready for state meet
Oxford’s Chargers have one goal in mind: To return to Columbus and win a state title in golf. A week after defeating New Hope on its home course to capture the Division 2-5A title, the Chargers are gearing up for bigger and better things at the MHSAA’s 5A state meet.

Oxford boys golf coach Steve Herring couldn’t hide the pride he felt for his Chargers after Tuesday’s victory in the Division 2-5A golf tournament. Oxford golfers start season at New Albany
Oxford’s golf season got underway at New Albany Tuesday. Junior Turner Arnold tied with teammate Peyton Dunlap for the medalist award at the first meet with a round of 37. Sophomore Ethan Holmes followed with a 42, senior John Graeber shot a 43, sophomore Carlton Roberson shot a 44, sophomore Ben Hubbard finished with a 45, junior Ward Toler shot a 46, senior Taylor Harris shot a 47, Bo Ryals, a seventh-grader, shot a 49, while sophomore Taylor Daniels rounded out the scores with a 52. Oxford sweeps Okolona
Playing in a tournament hosted at Tupelo Monday, the Oxford boys and girls basketball teams swept Okolona. The Lady Chargers improved to 2-0 with a 95-10 win.
