Lafayette’s Commodores are set to begin the 2013 powerlifting season at the Pontotoc Invitational with a veteran team but also with some changes from a year ago. One of the biggest changes revolves around the unfortunate death of John Mills, who finished third in the 114-pound weight division at last year’s state meet. (January 18, 2013, Page 8A)
The success Lafayette’s powerlifting team had in its first meet last week paid dividends on Monday with a second-place finish in the Lady Wildcat Invitational held at Calhoun City.
The Lady Commodores totaled 55 points, second to Charleston’s 63. Oxford finished third with 30 points, while Pontotoc (24) and Calhoun City (10) rounded out the teams at the meet.
Cate Clay lifted in the 97-pound weight class for the Lady Commodores and finished first with a 425-pound total. Meg Norphlet competed in the 105 class and was first with a total of 500. San Hairston competed in the 123 class as did Jada McIntosh. Hairston was second with a 595, while McIntosh totaled 500. (more…) (February 1, 2012, Page 7)
