Naming of new bridge discussed

Local residents Jim Petermann and Mark Stone asked the Lafayette Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to consider naming the new Tallahatchie River Bridge in honor of those who have served in our nation’s two most recent armed conflicts — Iraq and Afghanistan. (January 21, 2015, Page 1A, 3A)

Valor recalled

Area residents will have three programs this Memorial Day to give everyone a chance to honor those who gave all.

— Community service at 10 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Oxford; guest speaker will be Don Hutson

— Mississippi State Veteran’s Home at 10 a.m.; guest speaker will be SP5 Jimmy C. Reed Jr.

— Water Valley VFW at 11 a.m. on Main Street; free lunch provided following service. (May 27, 2011, Page 1A,3A)

Community begins to rebuild

The storms on April 27 — one month ago today — destroyed 18 homes and damaged hundreds of other homes and businesses around the county. The neighborhoods of Pine Flat, Yocona and north Oxford are rebuilding as the community joins together to help form a new long-term recovery group. (May 27, 2011, Page 1A, 8A)
