WATER VALLEY — An improved focus on the court is what Lafayette volleyball coach Aimee Scribner wanted to see from her team prior to Thursday night’s Class I, District 2 match against the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils.

In years past, the Lafayette girls basketball team made a name for itself by flying up and down the court and out-hustling opponents.

The junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams defeated Tupelo Christian Prepatory Thursday night. The Lady Lions topped Tupelo 35-15 in the season-opening win, while the Lions won 34-12. Aliyah Herod scored 12 points, Jenna Ursic had eight points, Erin Getzin scored six points, Holly Prather had five points while Madison McCay finished with two points.
Josh McManus scored 12 points to lead the Lions. Nate McManus, Daniel Brummett and Braxton Ruder each scored six points, while Taylor Rayburn had four points. (November 4, 2011, Page 12A)
