WATER VALLEY — Momentum is not something the Water Valley basketball team will be able to take into this week’s Division 2-3A tournament at Aberdeen.
Both the Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils lost on Senior Night on Friday in the WVHS gym to South Panola. WATER VALLEY — A 14-2 run late in the third quarter prevented the Water Valley Blue Devils from earning a Region 2-3A win over Mooreville on Friday night. After battling the Troopers back-and-forth in the first half and a good portion of the third quarter, mental lapses on defense ended up costing the Blue Devils.
The Troopers’ run ended up erasing a two-point lead for the WVHS boys and resulting in a 45-35 lead just before the start of the fourth quarter. Water Valley did go on a 10-2 run in the fourth to get within two points (49-47) of the Troopers, but the Blue Devils never could get over the proverbial hump. The end result was a 67-52 victory for Mooreville, which is now in second place in the region. (January 23, 2012, Page 3B)

WATER VALLEY — The Lafayette Middle School basketball teams made the most of their opportunities Thursday evening taking three of four games at Water Valley.
A team-first approach to winning basketball games turned out to be very successful for the Oxford Lady Chargers and junior point guard Erika Sisk this season. Not only did OHS win 24 games and advance to the Class 5A North Half tournament under coach Shayne Linzy in his second season, the 5-foot-4 Sisk was able to show her all-around skills better than she has before.
Sisk not only set up her teammates during games, but she was a driving force behind the Lady Chargers’ offense. She led the area with averaging 22.0 points per game and then added to that outstanding scoring ledger by dishing out 4.8 assists and grabbing 3.9 rebounds per game.
After claiming a narrow victory the night before to earn the right to play in the Region 2-3A tournament title game, the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils came up short in their title bid falling to Nettleton 60-40. (February 14, 2011, Page 7A)
It was only fitting that on Senior Night, it was the upperclassmen that propelled both the Water Valley boys and girls basketball squads to victories over Winona on Monday. (more…) (February 1, 2011, Page 8)
Whether it was driving to the basket, leading the fast break, pulling up for a jumper or knocking down free throws, Water Valley senior point guard Ashley Phillips did it all on offense for the Lady Blue Devils during their 62-51 home victory over Amanda Elzy on Friday.
