Sisk’s all-around game keys OHS success

A team-first approach to winning basketball games turned out to be very successful for the Oxford Lady Chargers and junior point guard Erika Sisk this season. Not only did OHS win 24 games and advance to the Class 5A North Half tournament under coach Shayne Linzy in his second season, the 5-foot-4 Sisk was able to show her all-around skills better than she has before.

Sisk not only set up her teammates during games, but she was a driving force behind the Lady Chargers’ offense. She led the area with averaging 22.0 points per game and then added to that outstanding scoring ledger by dishing out 4.8 assists and grabbing 3.9 rebounds per game.

Nettleton tops Lady Blue Devils in 2-3A title game

CHS Tigers no match for WVHS boys

The Water Valley Blue Devils basketball squad opened up the Valley Classic with a bang on Thursday, cruising to a 68-44 victory over Charleston at the WVHS gym, while the girls fell victim to too many turnovers in a 60-55 overtime loss to Charleston.

After mounting an early six-point lead after the first quarter, the Blue Devils’ offense never hit a lull and was able to extend its lead to as many as 36 early in the fourth quarter. (December 3, 2010, Page 9A)

Phillips-led Lady Devils looking for improvement

The Water Valley Lady Blue Devils basketball team is hoping to take the program to another level heading into their second year under coach Jason Purdy.

It’s because of what Purdy has seen during preseason practices that he believes the Lady Blue Devils can take a step in the right direction to improve upon last season, which ended with a first-round loss in the playoffs. (November 3, 2010, Page 6)

WATER VALLEY GIRLS HOOPS — Three days after earning a character-building win over South Pontotoc, the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils were unable to recapture that spark in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, falling to M.S.-Palmer 65-55. Water Valley’s Lady Blue Devils traveled to Mooreville Tuesday and earned a surprising 56-41 win over the Lady Troopers in the first round of the Region 2-3A Tournament. C.C.
