Noel swats away Rebs’ perfect SEC mark

Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel made sure Ole Miss’ undefeated start to its Southeastern Conference schedule came to an abrupt end Tuesday night. The freshman center blocked a UK record 12 shots and was single handily the difference in the Wildcats’ 87-74 win over the No. 16 Rebels in front of a capacity crowd of 9,232 at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum and a national TV audience watching via ESPN. Henderson’s shot keys OT victory

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It wasn’t a “desperation heave,” if you believe the man who shot it. It was all part of the plan.

The win was Ole Miss’ first at Memorial Gym since 2001, the year they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The win also improved the Rebels to 14-2 overall, their best start since the 2007-08 team went 15-1 and 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference. (more…) (January 16, 2013, Page 6)

Rebels turnover big road opportunity

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee State taught Ole Miss a valuable lesson Saturday night: It’s all about your appetite.

The Rebels lost 65-62 at MTSU, their first of the season, in an effort characterized by coach Andy Kennedy as — at times — a case of the Blue Raiders’ senior-laden roster simply being hungrier than Ole Miss. (December 10, 2012, Page 1B)

Rebels still win despite sluggish start

Energy and effort were issues for the Ole Miss Rebels on Tuesday night in their game with McNeese State at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.

While the Rebels were able to find another gear in the second half to post a 76-50 win over the Cowboys, coach Andy Kennedy thought the overall production and energy level was less than ideal. Senior Murphy Holloway ended up leading the Rebels with 15 points on a 7-for-7 night shooting from the floor, but overall the offense struggled to find much of a rhythm. (November 21, 2012, Page 6)
