Barber’s focus, talent leads to Player of Year award

A focused approach that started this past summer made Oxford High baseball player Zac Barber the most important player on the field for the Chargers this season.

Late-inning tag lifts Lafayette past Kosciusko

KOSCIUSKO — A dive, a drive and an outstanding individual effort on the mound proved to be the winning formula for the Lafayette Commodores to earn a 2-1 win over Kosciusko in the decisive game of a best-of-three Class 4A playoff series on Saturday.

LHS (22-5 overall) was able to advance to a second round matchup with North Pontotoc by holding off the Whippets when it mattered most. After LHS opened the series with an 11-3 win at home on Friday night, Kosciusko defeated the Commodores 9-4 in the second game to force the winner-take-all third game.

LHS opens 4A playoff series with Kosciusko

Lafayette’s goal to reach Jackson and play in the MHSAA’s Class 4A state tournament begins tonight with a first-round, best-of-three series against Kosciusko at W.V. Brewer Field. Lewisburg tops Lafayette in baseball

Lafayette baseball rolls Center Hill

Lafayette’s potent lineup led the Commodores to two one-sided wins over Center Hill and New Albany over the weekend. The Commodores defeated Center Hill 13-2 on Friday night to remain perfect (6-0) in Region 2-4A play, while the ‘Dores smacked around the Bulldogs for the second time this year in a 14-9 win at New Albany.
