Dominant is what the Oxford Lady Chargers were Saturday in the Region 1-5A meet held at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field. Oxford finished first in the meet with 212 points, almost 100 more than second-place finisher Center Hill (117). The Lady Chargers also finished with seven first-place finishes and a bevy of seconds to earn the title. First-place finishes garner 10 points, while second-place finishes garner eight. Rainy conditions at Bobby Holcomb Field on Tuesday were only able to slow, not stop, the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers in the annual Division 2-5A meet. Both teams won the respective team titles despite the weather that slowed the track for running events. (more…) (April 18, 2012, Page 8)
Oxford’s girls remained perfect in region play and overall as the Lady Chargers defeated West Point at home Friday night and Scott Central on Saturday in the Mid-Mississippi Challenge held in Ackerman. The Lady Chargers topped West Point 81-37 and then defeated Scott Central 81-49.
Oxford’s boys also continued to roll in region play as the Chargers defeated West Point 90-63. The Chargers then took Starkville’s spot in the annual Hotbed Classic hosted by New Albany on short notice and fell to Booneville 63-50. (more…) (January 23, 2012, Page 2B)
Oxford’s girls and boys basketball seasons may be in their infancy stages, but both head coaches are focused on the future and certain aspects that will both make their respective teams better.
OHS girls coach Shayne Linzy wasn’t pleased with the way his team started the game, but he liked they way they fought and competed in a 79-54 win over Senatobia in the OHS gym Tuesday night. (November 16, 2011, Page 6)
