WEST POINT—The Oxford High boys and girls basketball teams have secured spots in next week’s MHSAA Class 5A state playoffs. Chargers blow past Coldwater on Senior Night

Oxford High’s seniors played their final game in front of their home fans Thursday night. It played out like the rest of them did this season. The Chargers capped the regular season with a 74-53 victory over Coldwater on Senior Night at the Oxford High gym to continue their push toward the postseason. Next up for Oxford (23-4) is its Division 2-5A tournament opener against fourth-seeded West Point on Tuesday at West Point. (February 13, 2015, Page 6A, 7A)

Chargers run past West Point for first division win

Oxford’s best players stayed on the floor, allowing the Chargers to get back to the style of play to which they’re accustomed. They washed a bad taste out of their collective mouth as a result. Senior forward Shelby McEwen led four double-figure scorers for Oxford as the Chargers routed the Green Wave, 87-62, Tuesday night at the Oxford High gym to pick up their first Division 2-5A victory of the season. The win came four days after Oxford (16-3, 1-1 Division 2-5A) lost its division opener at New Hope, the Chargers’ first setback to a team from Mississippi. (January 21, 2015, Page 1B, 3B)

Oxford moves to 11-0 with rout of ‘Dores

Once Oxford’s boys basketball team stopped thinking and started playing, there wasn’t much Lafayette could do to slow the Chargers down. Oxford turned an early seesaw affair into a rout by turning smothering defense into instant offense in an 80-42 victory over the rival Commodores at the Oxford High gym on Friday night that kept the Chargers unbeaten. Their 11-0 record matches the best start to a season in coach Drew Tyler’s 18-year tenure. Lafayette High’s girls team beat the Lady Chargers 50-47 (December 21, 2014, Page 1B, 2B)

Lady Chargers win 2 in tourney

Oxford’s girls basketball team had a little easier go of it in its final game of the “O” Town Showdown. After holding off Madison-Ridgeland Academy for a 39-34 win Friday, the Chargers took control early against Marshall Academy and cruised to a 61-33 victory Saturday night at the Oxford High gym. The Lafayette Lady Commodores split their two games in the tournament. (December 14, 2014, Page 4B)

OHS hoops sweeps Starkville Academy

Starkville Academy threw a variety of zone defenses at Oxford on Saturday night. That suited the Chargers just fine. Oxford (2-0) made a living shooting over the top of the Volunteers all night, using a fast start to cruise to a 79-55 victory in the Public vs. Private Challenge at the new Oxford High gym. (November 16, 2014, Page 5B)

Oxford girls nip Calhoun City

The two times Oxford and Calhoun City played each other last year, the home team came away the victor. That trend continued Tuesday as the Lady Chargers held serve, beating the visiting Lady Wildcats 58-55 in their season opener inside the new OHS gym. (November 12, 2014, Page 2B)
