An early lead didn’t hold for the Lafayette Lady Commodores lost 49-47 to New Albany in the Division 2-4A Tournament Friday. Mykira Buford and Mariah Buford each scored 10 points in the loss. A fast start and a good display of toughness late in the game proved to be the winning formula for the Lafayette Lady Commodores Tuesday night in the LHS gym.

Led by junior sprinter Mariah Buford, the Lafayette Lady Commodores finished third out of 18 teams in Saturday’s Class 4A North Half meet held at Mississippi State. This weekend, the Lady ‘Dores will participate in Hickory Flat’s jamboree, a week before Water Valley and Oxford’s squads open their season, and a month before the Commodores begin their season.

Lafayette wrapped up successful seasons on the track Monday with two top five finishes for the Commodore and Lady Commodore teams in the MHSAA Class 4A meet held at Pearl High School.
Lafayette’s boys garnered 44 points to finish in third place out of 33 teams, while Lafayette’s girls scored 47.50 to finish fourth out of 27 teams in the field. (May 19, 2010, Page 7)
Two balanced performances on both the track and field led to second-place finishes for the Lafayette girls and boys track teams Friday in the Region 1-4A meet held at Pontotoc.
The Lady Commodores totaled 102 points, while the Commodores totaled 105.5 points. Pontotoc won both the girls and boys portions with 175 and 216 points respectively. Byhalia finished third in the girls meet with 75 points, while Center Hill was third in the boys meet with 82.5 points. A total of 12 teams competed in the annual meet. (May 3, 2010, Page 3B)
