LB Jackson embodies Wrecking Crew

WATER VALLEY — Driving toward Bobby Clark Field on Wise Street, it’s hard not to notice the 1990 state championship sign on the right side of the road.

Though the blue and white proclamation is now faded and chipped, it still serves as a reminder of Water Valley’s greatest triumph on the gridiron.

Blue Devils fall to S. Pontotoc

A late rally wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Blue Devils to a win over South Pontotoc on Tuesday night. WVHS fell 8-7 despite three hits each from Taylor King, John Michael Grimmett and J.D. Blue Devils down Biggersville

The Water Valley baseball team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 6-5 win over Biggersville in the Oxford Spring Break Tournament on Wednesday. Drew Pratt earned the win for the Blue Devils on the mound, while Walt McCullough earned the save. J.D. Fondon had a home run in the victory, while Adam Langham and John Michael Grimmett each had two hits. One of Langham hits was a double. Several Blue Devils make MAC 3A Team

Several Water Valley Blue Devils were honored on Wednesday for their standout play on the football field.

Included on the 2010 Mississippi Association of Coaches’ Class 3A All-State Team were first teamers, linebacker J.D. Fondon, safety/running back Eric Buckley and long snapper Fred McGee. Cornerback/receiver Chris Conard was named to the second team, while linebacker C.J. Jackson, lineman Tommy Lipscomb and punter John Michael Grimmett were named as honorable mentions. (December 9, 2010, Page 6)

Defense, special teams lift WVHS past Cougars

The Water Valley Blue Devils (7-2, 2-1) won convincingly Friday night in a very important Region 2-3A game against the South Pontotoc Cougars (4-5, 2-1) as a tenacious defense and well-executed special teams unit were the difference in the 38-14 Blue Devil victory. (October 18, 2010, Page 1B)
