Rebels look to make improvements against Tulane

Move on and forget about the Texas game is the message Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze has tried to get across to his players ever since the game came to an end late Saturday night.

In an effort to avoid a hangover from the 66-31 loss suffered at the hands of then No. 14 Texas this Saturday against Tulane, Freeze and his staff want the players to focus on making corrections from the Texas game but not dwell on the outcome. (September 18, 2012, Page 6)

Rebel safeties up to the challenge

If there was a unit on the Ole Miss football team that needed a few days off from the rigors of camp recently it was the secondary. Injuries have hampered things since the start of summer drills and nobody knows that better than defensive coordinator Dave Wommack, who talked about his safeties and the overall depth of the back five after Saturday’s latest scrimmage. (August 22, 2012, Page 6)

Rebels still finding their way

With under a week to go until Saturday’s annual Grove Bowl, the Ole Miss football team still has plenty of room to improve. (more…) (April 16, 2012, Page 6)

Mathews seeing renewed camaraderie

This summer there has been a lot of emphasis put on coming together as a team for the Ole Miss football squad.

When discussing the pitfalls and woes of last season’s four-win campaign, players bring up a lack of camaraderie and leadership.

That won’t be the case this season, at least if the players have learned from last year. (July 18, 2011, Page 6)

Rebels pick up two juco signees

Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt saw his roster increase today as junior college football players started signing their National Letters of Intent.

For mid-year entrance, junior college players could start signing with a four-year college today and be eligible to participate in spring drills. As of press time, ASA College (Brooklyn, N.Y.) defensive back Ivan Nicholas (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) and teammate, defensive tackle Gilbert Pena (6-4, 315), had signed on with the Rebels.

Two other players, Copiah-Lincoln defensive back Wesley Pendleton (5-11, 180) and Iowa Western quarterback Zack Stoudt (6-5, 230), were expected to also sign with the Rebels later today. Stoudt, who started his college career at Louisville, recently visited Oxford and verbally committed to the Rebels on Tuesday over an offer from Kansas. (December 15, 2010, Page 8A)

Rebs have big weekend, land 3 JUCOs

Ole Miss’ recruiting class got a boost of experience over the weekend with verbal commitments from three community college standouts.

On Sunday, safety Ivan Nicholas (5-foot-11, 195 pounds; ASA College), linebacker Otha Foster (6-2, 205; Pearl River C.C.) and cornerback Wesley Pendleton (5-11, 180; Copiah-Lincoln C.C.) each gave pledges to the Rebels, bumping their class size up to 22. (December 7, 2010, Page 9)
