Commodores take down Kosciusko in playoff opener

Lafayette got off to a great start in the Class 4A playoffs Monday morning with a 6-1 win over Kosciusko on the road. Lafayette swept the doubles action to gain the match win, while Mallory Davis peformed well in her singles match. Davis defeated Jessica Reynolds 6-0, 6-2 to gain the victory for LHS. Davis, Pruitt claim first tennis title for Lafayette

Lafayette’s Mallory Davis and Barron Pruitt made history Tuesday as the duo captured the first individual state tennis championship in Jackson. The duo defeated Newton County’s Blake Cochran and Shannon St. Clarie 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to win the match. Davis and Pruitt defeated Cole Morrow and Taylor Long of Purvis to advance on the first day.
