Hugh Freeze

Freeze to open QB competition back up

VIDEO BLOG: Ole Miss hasn’t exactly gone back to the drawing board, but head coach Hugh Freeze did make it pretty clear that just because Bo Wallace has been the man, doesn’t mean he will continue to be QB 1 if he continues to turn over the ball. (more…) (October 1, 2012)

Is going all out at ‘Bama best for Rebels?

COLUMN: Bo Wallace has a bad shoulder and has been limited in practice this week. The fact he’s Ole Miss’ best and most complete quarterback for head coach Hugh Freeze’s system is reason enough to think that the coaching staff might let him rest a while (or an entire game) to preserve Wallace for the rest of the year. Freeze sees more from Rebels after Tulane win

After watching film of Saturday’s 39-0 win over Tulane, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said his team actually got as close to playing a complete as it has all season. With the exception of three lost fumbles, Freeze seem to think his team did everything expected of them in all three phases.

That’s good news considering the now Rebels (3-1 overall) travel to play at No. 1 Alabama on Saturday night to open their Southeastern Conference schedule. (September 25, 2012, Page 6)

Bo knows how to deal with new-found fame

COLUMN: Yes, Bo Wallace was recruited by Texas.

And no, he did not visit Austin, Texas. Nor did he receive an offer from the Longhorns.

That’s about all that needs to be said about his connection to Ole Miss’ opponent this weekend, according to Wallace. (more…) (September 14, 2012, Page 6A)

Gross earning early playing time for Rebs

A quick glance at Ole Miss’ depth chart shows only one true freshman atop his position: Issac Gross.

For the third consecutive week, the 6-foot-1, 254-pound Gross is penciled in as the Rebels’ starter at nose tackle ahead of senior Gilbert Pena and redshirt freshman Woodrow Hamilton. (more…) (September 14, 2012, Page 7A)

New-look Rebels turn sights to Longhorns

The Ole Miss Rebels are currently in some rather unfamiliar territory.

For starters, the Rebels are 2-0 for the first time since the 2009 season and received votes in a national poll (USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll) for the first time since the 2010 preseason. (more…) (September 11, 2012, Page 8)

Rebels strike gold against UTEP

Prior to the season, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze was asked what his thoughts were on the Rebels playing host to perennial power Texas during Week 3.

Without skipping a beat, Freeze replied “Are we 2-0?”

As it turns out, the Rebels are.

Saturday, Ole Miss overcame a third-quarter lull to remain undefeated with a 28-10 victory over UTEP. (September 10, 2012, Page 1B)

Freeze happy Greer finds way onto scoresheet

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze lit up during his post game press conference when asked about H.R. Greer’s touchdown catch.

The 3-yard pass and catch from quarterback Bo Wallace marked just his second career touchdown and capped Ole Miss’ scoring for the night with 11:18 remaining in the game.

After coming out of the backfield, Greer caught Wallace’s pass and was able to beat UTEP’s defenders and dive over the front right pylon of the end zone for the touchdown. (September 10, 2012, Page 1B)
